HempMeds® Brasil Invites Doctors to U.S. Offices for Educational Symposium
The first company to legally ship CBD products to Brazil, subsidiary HempMeds® Brasil continues its series of educational CBD symposiums for doctors with event in hometown.
Medical Marijuana, Inc. subsidiary HempMeds® Brasil hosted an International Symposium on Cannabinoid Medicine from April 29 – May 1, 2019 in San Diego, California – the site of our company headquarters.
The event was organized for a group of influential medical doctors from Brazil to give them the information they need to confidently prescribe the company’s cannabidiol (CBD) products, which are considered prescription medication in the county.
“We are very proud to host these prestigious medical and scientific professionals in San Diego for this great educational event that is designed to help inform them about CBD and the research surrounding its use and benefits,” said HempMeds® Brasil Vice President Caroline Heinz. “This event will also help us build long-lasting relationships with them so that we can work together to expand CBD access to patients in Brazil.”
Nine world-renowned Brazilian medical doctors and a biomedicine scientist gathered in San Diego for the three-day event to learn about the potential therapeutic applications of CBD and about the significant research taking place in San Diego for several conditions such as epilepsy and autism.
During the symposium’s first day, these doctors, joined by executives from both Medical Marijuana, Inc. and HempMeds® Brasil, visited the TERI Campus of Life to discuss how the organization aims to provide support to special needs families with training and education opportunities.
The group also toured the Muotri Lab at the University of California San Diego’s Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Muotri and his team are researching childhood neurological diseases using Harper Howard’s donated cells to create “mini-brains”. Harper’s donation was the first from a child with CDKL5 who was given CBD during their lifetime and provides a unique view into neurological diseases.
The next day, the doctors were shown the Medical Marijuana, Inc.’s lab where our Real Scientific Hemp Oil products are made. There, the doctors viewed first hand the process used to create our top quality hemp-derived CBD oil products.
The event’s final day invited the doctors to the Medical Marijuana, Inc. headquarters for a series of presentations by fellow doctors and respected cannabinoid specialists to give them a strong background on cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system, recent research into the medical effects of cannabinoids, medical cannabis case studies, pharmacological uses, and more.
HempMeds® Brasil VP Caroline Heinz kicked off the day of speakers by welcoming attendees and introducing the day’s presentation. She was followed by a series of doctors and experts about the physiology of CBD use, cannabinoid treatments currently being used for neurological disorders. The speakers included Mr. Gabriel Barbosa, Dr. David Bearman, Dr. Paula Vinha, Dr. Abram Topoczewski, Dr. Murielle Urzeda, and Dr. Elias Ajub.
Medical Marijuana, Inc. CEO Dr. Stuart Titus also spoke at the event. One of the foremost sources for information on CBD, Dr. Titus regularly speaks at events around the world, sharing his personal expertise regarding CBD and the results of CBD research.
“Over the past few years, we have enthusiastically offered events like this one to doctors from all over the world so that we can be the leading charge to help dispel the many myths and misconceptions about cannabis and CBD,” said Dr. Titus. “We hope that the professionals who attend this event will go back to Brazil with the knowledge they need to effectively use CBD in their practices.”
Earlier this year, HempMeds® Brasil hosted a pair of events similar the one held in San Diego last week for doctors in Brazil with a similar goal of educating doctors on the benefits of CBD as a treatment option and scientific research that supports these benefits.
First, the company held its second Cannabinoid Medicine course on Feb. 1, 2019, at the HempMeds® Brasil office in São Paulo. The objective of the course, which was attended by doctors of many specialties, was to help educate on how cannabis interacts with the human body, the different treatment possibilities using cannabinoids and how CBD has the potential to help improve the wellbeing of Brazilians. Then, in March, the company invited doctors in the region to Salvador, Bahia, for a similar event at the Fera Palace Hotel.
The company also sponsors events that align with its mission, including the recent TEAbraco 2019 International Autism Week from April 1 to April 7 at the Iguatemi Mall in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil.
In addition to sponsoring the event, HempMeds® Brasil hosted an educational seminar on April 4th where attendees learned about the medical cannabis market in Brazil, how CBD interacts with the body and the global landscape of medical cannabis. Then, on April 5th, the company held a CBD workshop led by child psychiatrist Dr. Murielle Moura, who has a background in treating autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders, for researchers and doctors to learn about how CBD interacts with the brain.
