Amsterdam Mayor Gives Thumbs Down To Regulated Cultivation of Cannabis

Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema says the city will not participate in an experiment involving the regulated cultivation of cannabis as it now stands, the Parool reports. The experiment will allow six to ten municipalities to grow their own cannabis to supply local coffee shops for four years. The aim is to remove the grey area between illegal supply and licenced cannabis cafes or coffee shops, where small amounts of cannabis (hash and marijuana) can be bought for personal use.
