High Times NorCal Cup Granted Recreational License
High Times NorCal Cup Granted Recreational License
High Times is making history again this summer. This time, it’s with the 2018 NorCal Cannabis Cup, which will be the second-ever event in the nation where attendees can buy, sell, and consume cannabis. The City of Santa Rosa and the California Bureau of Cannabis Control have granted the High Times NorCal Cup a recreational marijuana license for the June festivities.
The High Times NorCal Cup Will Be Just The Second Event Ever With Legal Weed
For more than 30 years, High Times Cannabis Cups have offered event-goers everything they could ever want to experience about cannabis—everything except the experience of cannabis itself.
Until now. With Proposition 64 finally in full effect in California, adult-use cannabis sales are completely legal. And even though public cannabis consumption is banned by state law, state and local governments have decided to grant the 2018 NorCal Cup the second-ever license sanctioning adult-use cannabis at the event.
The decisions didn’t come easy, either. In trailblazing fashion, High Times worked closely with state and local agencies to secure the licenses that are making this summer’s Cannabis Cups historic occasions.
The licenses are “the result of lots of hard work, collaboration and communication with local officials… and the event organizers,” California’s Bureau of Cannabis Control wrote on Facebook last month.
Last month, the City of Sacramento made history when it elected to provide High Times with approval to host the first state-sanctioned recreational cannabis event in the country, the Central Valley Cannabis Cup. And on June 2 and 3 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, the High Times NorCal Cup will make history repeat.
“We couldn’t be more excited to host the nation’s second state-sanctioned cannabis even, especially so soon after our successful pilot in Sacramento,” said High Times CEO Adam Levin. “We’re not just proving that events like this are safe and enjoyable, but also the economic and social benefits they can provide for these communities.”
2018 High Times NorCal Cup Preview
High Times Cannabis Cups have always featured excellent live music, educational seminars, live art exhibitions, food truck pods and of course, a packed exhibitor village with dozens of companies demoing the latest and greatest cannabis products.
This year, however, attendees will enjoy something they’ve never been able to before: consuming cannabis during the event itself.
So next week, the tens of thousands of people who will gather at the NorCal Cup will be able to snack on a cannabis-infused edible while enjoying a show by G. Love and Special Sauce. Or, they’ll be able to stop by a tent for some dabs before jamming out to the Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band.
Visitors of the exhibition village will be able to sample the different cannabis products on offer, from flower to concentrates, tinctures to topicals. As long as event goers meet the state’s minimum eligibility requirements for recreational cannabis use, everything is completely legal. Outside of last month’s High Times event in Sacramento, there’s never been anything like it.
Now You Can Buy, Sell and Sample Weed at the NorCal Cup
At the High Times NorCal Cup on June 2–3, the many varieties of the cannabis lifestyle will be on full display. And that could do more than anything else to demonstrate that the country has nothing to fear from legal cannabis.
No doubt the event will also grow the movement to end the federal ban on marijuana. “We look forward to producing these legal, recreational events in more locales, states, and eventually nationwide,” said Levin.
High Times has already set Cannabis Cup gatherings for Amsterdam in the Netherlands and in Clio, Michigan. More will be announced in the coming weeks.
